The Isle of Man
The Isle of Man is situated in the middle of the Irish Sea between Ireland and Great Britain. The country is an internally self-governing dependent territory of the British Crown. It is not part of the European Union, United Kingdom (or Great Britain) but is a member of the British Commonwealth. It has competed in every Commonwealth Games since its first appearance in 1958 and will be hosting the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011.
The Isle of Man is politically and constitutionally separate from the United Kingdom. It has its own legal system and Government. The local people (the Manx) are proud of the fact that their ancient Parliament (Tynwald) is over 1000 years old. It is the oldest continous parliament in the world and was started by the Vikings.
