About IOMTKD

The primary goal of the Isle of Man Taekwondo Association (IOMTKD) is to promote the teaching and development of the Olympic sport and Korean Martial Art of Taekwondo in the Isle of Man. The Isle of Man is a member nation of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). The WTF is the IOC recognised body for the Olympic Sport.

Our students are both male and female currently ranging in age from 5 years to 50 years old and include a number of families who train together.

Our instructors provide a comprehensive coaching in Taekwondo from the Olympic Sport, technical, self-defence, sport conditioning and general fitness - which means students can enjoy the opportunity to become a 'complete' martial artist, while also 'majoring' in the aspects of Taekwondo they most enjoy.

We arrange seminars with internationally renowned experts and, for those interested in competition, we provide the support and opportunities you need. With the support of the Manx Government this includes the development of an Isle of Man team to represent the island internationally.

All our students come to us with varying aptitudes and abilities. Our goal is to ensure that you become the best Taekwondo practitioner that you can be - and have fun on your journey!

Some of our members

IOMTKD is a non-profit making company, limited by guarantee, and none of its Officers or committee members are paid for the work that they carry out.

IOMTKD is recognised and supported by the Isle of Man Sports Council. It has received lottery support from the Isle of Man Public Lottery Trust to purchase WTF approved competition rings, software and training equipment.

IOMTKD has numerous black belts including two female gold medallists from the British University Championships. All our blackbelts are Kukkiwon certified and now include a Korean 4th Dan who holds the Korean Taekwondo teaching certificate awarded by Kukkiwon. It has been supported by numerous instructors and Masters from the UK, Ireland, the USA and Korea. IOMTKD is honoured to have as its Patron and Chief Examiner Master Bae Dong Jin 6th Dan (Kukkiwon).

All of the Club's instructors undergo an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check for working with children and education in Health and Safety and child protection issues. All instructors have attended a Red Cross first aid course.

IOMTKD hold lessons at the excellent National Sports Centre in Douglas, a £20,000,000 first class facility, and at the Sports Hall at St. John's School, St. John's. More venues are planned over the next year.
